How do I Check if I Have Bed Bugs?

If your being bitten by something but can’t work out what it is biting you If you have stayed in a property with bed bugs and could of brought them home, or you are worried about having a bed bug infestation, the steps below will be able to help when looking for bed bugs in your home.

Bed bugs are lazy and will initially stay as close to you as possible. They will stay close to where you sleep or relax such as the bed or sofa. They will start to spread to multiple areas of the bed, furniture near by or other rooms as the infestation grows.

Evidence is always easier to find, the first thing to look for is bed bug poo. Bed bug poo looks like black felt tip pen dots on the frame of the bed, on skirting boards and possibly furniture near the bed depending on how heavy the infestation is.

Bed bug poo will be in clusters or groups. It will  be near joints on the frame, if you have a divan bed frame you will need to take off the black plastic bottom to be able to see inside the frame where the joints are.

You may be luckily and see a bed bug before you spot the infestation, this isn’t common but also not impossible. The earlier the infestation is caught the easier it is to eradicate.

Anything you do find, take photos of and also search the internet for bed bug evidence to see if it matches with what you have found. If in doubt contact a pest control company/bed bug specialist or post to a pest control forum to see if they can identify what has been found. Most pest control companies will not charge for photo identification.
